June is Pet Preparedness Month and all Camden County residents are encouraged to educate themselves on the steps needed to ensure the safety of their pets in the event of a disaster. Camden County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), along with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), is sharing information throughout the month of June on how to prepare pets.
“Pets are significant members in most of our families and it is important to take action now to ensure their safety in an emergency,” said Emergency Management Director Chuck White. “Making plans in advance will make it easier when you need to take these steps in a disaster.”
Pet Preparedness Month will provide Camden County citizens with information and activities to assist with taking care of important arrangements before a natural or man-made disaster impacts our community. The following topics will be addressed during the month:
- June 1 – 4: Make a Plan - If you have a plan in place for you and your pets, you will likely encounter less difficulty, stress, and worry when making decisions during emergencies.
- June 7 – 11: Build a Kit – Similar to your family’s emergency supply kit, think first about the basics for survival, such as food, water, and medicine.
- June 14 – 18: Tips for Large Animals - If you have pets such as horses, goats, or pigs on your property, be sure to prepare before a disaster.
- June 21 – 25: Stay Informed - Being prepared and staying informed of current conditions.
