Camden County Represented at Georgia Climate Conference

Chuck White, Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director, represented Camden County at the Georgia Climate Conference earlier this month. The conference, held May 15-17, 2023, at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education in Athens, Georgia, sought to support and accelerate Georgia’s efforts to take practical steps to minimize the risks and maximize the opportunities associated with a changing climate.

“This was a great opportunity to learn from others across Georgia,” said EMA Director Chuck White. “We were able to highlight Camden County’s efforts to build a resilient community to partners throughout our state.”

Mr. White participated as a panel member and speaker on the Risk Perceptions and Disaster Management session. This discussion focused on understanding how people perceive risks to health, livelihoods, infrastructure, and community can influence preparation for extreme weather and support for climate policy.

The event brought several hundred attendees representing multiple sectors and areas of expertise to collaborate, raise awareness of work across the state, highlight progress, and identify future opportunities. Topics included, but were not limited to; Best Practices for Community Resilience Planning, Climate Adaptation and Resilience for Military Communities in Georgia, Climate Trends and Impact on Georgia Agriculture, Seedlings to Solutions (Mass Timber as a Climate Solution), Planning for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure, Flood and Drought Resilience Planning and Policy.
