[ARCHIVED] Gubernatorial Candidate Hunter Hill Announces Support for Spaceport Camden

Tuesday, at an event on St Simons Island, Gubernatorial Candidate and former State Senator, Hunter Hill, offered his support for Spaceport Camden stating, “Georgia Tech is the number 2 ranked aerospace engineering school in the country and Naval Base Kings Bay is the home to some of the best trained rocket scientists in the country. Spaceport Camden is a perfect opportunity to keep the best and brightest rocket experts living and working in Georgia, while also encouraging economic development, scientific research and discovery, and job growth. In the worldwide push for space exploration, I believe Georgia can lead the way."

Hill, an Army veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and graduate from the Airborne, the Air Assault, and the U.S. Army Ranger Schools, joins Air Force Major General Bob Dickman (ret.) and Navy Vice Admiral Al Konetzni (ret.) in supporting the project.  “We are excited to have Senator Hill’s support for this project”, said Steve Howard, Camden County Administrator and Spaceport Camden Project Lead. “Spaceport Camden is a natural fit with the expertise at Naval Base Kings Bay, I am glad all branches of the armed forces recognize the unique opportunity we have here in Camden.”

Howard presented Hill with a special army green, camouflage Spaceport Camden hat at the event. “This is your ACU for the remainder of the campaign. I hope you wear it to all of your events between now and election day.” ACU is an acronym for the Army Combat Uniform, the current battle uniforms worn by the United States Army. "Together, we will continue our fight for Georgia’s share of the $330 billion global space market and to keep our military personnel living and working in Camden County,” added Howard.
