[ARCHIVED] Significant Impacts Unlikely from Tropical Storm Humberto

With Humberto remaining off-shore, the threats now include life-threatening rip currents that will become more frequent as onshore flow increases today through the weekend. Surf will become rough and dangerous. Breaker heights today will build to 3 to 5 feet, with breakers of 4 to 6 feet possible through the weekend.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties and piers. Camden County residents are urged to continue to monitor updates on Humberto from the National Hurricane Center, for any unexpected forecast changes.

As we continue hurricane season, local residents are encouraged to sign-up for the CodeRED Emergency Notification System by visiting www.camdencountyga.gov/CodeRED or texting “CamdenCodeRED” to 99411. CodeRED is a direct method of communication from Camden County EMA to your landline, cell phone, or email. TDD/TTY service is also available. Participants will be notified in the event of emergency situations or critical community alerts.
